Dr. Shalon’s Maternal Action Project

Wanda Irving is a passionate advocate for Black maternal health and the co-founder of Dr. Shalon’s Maternal Action Project, an initiative dedicated to addressing racial disparities in maternal care and advocating for systemic change. Following the tragic loss of her daughter, Dr. Shalon Irving, due to childbirth complications, Wanda has become a national voice for maternal health equity, working to ensure that no more Black women are lost to preventable pregnancy-related deaths.

Through policy advocacy, education, and support programs, she leads efforts to uplift families affected by maternal loss and drive meaningful reform. Wanda is also the founder of GRAMMS (Grandmothers Rallying Against Maternal Mortality Sisterhood), a support network for women who have lost a daughter or loved one due to childbirth complications.
