Missi Burgess
Missi Burgess is a Certified Professional Midwife with a decade of practice attending home births. Drawing on her experience as a home birth mother of five, Missi provides compassionate, evidence-based care to families throughout their childbearing journey.
Beyond her clinical practice, Missi actively precepts students and facilitates workshops that strengthen core midwifery competencies. As President of the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives Georgia Chapter, she leads statewide efforts to advance the midwifery profession through education, community building, and strategic advocacy.
Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Maternal Child Health Systems, Missi is deeply engaged in policy work aimed at expanding midwifery-led care throughout Georgia. Her graduate research focuses on integrating direct-entry midwives into the state's maternal health system, while her advocacy efforts center on advancing midwifery licensure legislation for workforce expansion. Through coalition building with diverse stakeholders—including healthcare organizations, community advocates, and legislators—Missi works to demonstrate the safety, efficacy, and economic benefits of midwifery care as a vital component of Georgia's maternal health infrastructure.
Her approach combines traditional midwifery wisdom with contemporary evidence-based practices and systems-level thinking. This unique perspective allows Missi to bridge direct care experience with broader healthcare policy considerations, creating pathways for improved maternal health outcomes across Georgia. Her commitment to the future of midwifery is reflected not only in the families she serves, but in her tireless work to ensure that all Georgia families have access to quality midwifery care options.
