
Shontel Cargill
Shontel Cargill is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) whose passion for helping others, commitment to service, and dedication to being a change agent in the community led her to a professional career in mental health. She has over a decade of clinical and leadership experience. She is currently serving as a Regional Clinic Director for Thriveworks, a national mental health company. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia and a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Valdosta State University. She specializes in marriage and family therapy, couples therapy, and perinatal mental health.
Shontel Cargill, MS, LMFT, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Perinatal Mental Health Therapist, and maternal mental health advocate dedicated to empowering mothers, families, and communities through healing, leadership, and service.
Her mission is deeply personal. After experiencing the devastating loss of her daughter and nearly losing her own life, Shontel committed herself to ensuring that no mother, partner, or family faces the challenges of pregnancy, postpartum, or grief without compassionate support, quality care, and hope.
With more than a decade of clinical and leadership experience, Shontel champions maternal mental health through equitable care, systems improvement, and advocacy that centers the voices of women with lived experience. She serves as Clinical Quality Manager at SonderMind, where she leads initiatives that strengthen the quality of behavioral health care and promote clinical excellence.
A dedicated servant leader, Shontel is President of the Junior League of Gwinnett and North Fulton Counties, Immediate Past President of both Women of UGA and the Georgia Chapter of Postpartum Support International, and a member of the CORAL Community Advisory Board at Morehouse School of Medicine, where she contributes her expertise as both a perinatal mental health provider and a person with lived experience.
She is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
Shontel’s expertise and advocacy have been featured in Essence, Vogue, The New York Times, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and other national media outlets. Through every stage of her work, she is committed to creating communities where mothers, parents, children, support systems, and families are seen, supported, and empowered to thrive because stronger families create stronger communities.
